Black Mountain Country Club is a semi-private facility located 30 minutes from the Las Vegas strip in Henderson, Nev. The course was built by Bob Baldock in 1957, and has been a local favorite ever since. Black Mountain added a new, "desert" nine that will present a new challenge to players who have enjoyed this course for over 40 years.
Measuring 6,550 yards from the championship tees and carrying a slope of only 123, Black Mountain is the perfect course for the beginner, or for any player who wants to experience a course that combines mature landscaping and a traditional feel. The entire course features Bermuda grass, which is unusual for Las Vegas area courses, and gives the game an entirely different feel from all of the new courses that recently have exploded onto the golf scene in Southern Nevada.
The nice thing about Black Mountain is the price. At a time when green fees are consistently rising, this course offers a quality round of golf at rates no other course of this caliber currently offers. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the course typically is in very good shape. Also, it is one of the few courses where you can buy an ice-cold beer for under $3 -- a rarity in Las Vegas.
To experience a pleasant round of golf miles from the strip, without the fanfare and pressure of playing a high-end, high-priced resort course, Black Mountain may be just the golf course to play.
